EMD F3

The EMD F3 is a 1,500-horsepower (1,100 kW)  B-B freight- and passenger-hauling carbody diesel locomotive produced between July 1945 and February 1949 by General Motors’ Electro-Motive Division. Final assembly was at GM-EMD's La Grange, Illinois plant. A total of 1,111 cab-equipped lead A units and 696 cabless booster B units were built.

The F3 was the third model in GM-EMD's highly successful F-unit series of cab unit diesel locomotives, and it was the second most produced of the series.

AZL F7

The AZL EMD GP38-2 Southern Pacific (#AZL-62501 with Road numbers #4823 and 4834) was released in August 2020. (The GP38-2 with the road numbers #158, #164, #167 Bouchard and #170 was already released in August 2013 under the same AZL number but with a different Southern Pacific lettering (1st. generation).)  It comes with an improved chassis compared to the old chassis of the 1st and 2nd generation. two pilots for prototypical appearance. The lead engine of the three engines gets the pilot. The coupler of the front truck is removed and the pilot installed. This is best done after the shell has been removed.
It has improved contact connection with the light board/decoder

I just added decoders to my Frisco GP38's and I want to say THANK YOU  for the improved contact connection with the light board/decoder. The  decoder is now truly drop-in and you can actually see exactly where the  contacts come together. Bravo Zulu AZL!

Removing the shell

Removing the shell

Hold the fuel tank and wiggle the shell gently until it comes free.

The wipers can fall out easily when the locomotive is disassmbled, a drop of white clue can secure them, a hint from the AZL Forum

Installing the optional plow

Remove the front truck with coupler. Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the truck. Do this at the rear of the truck. The truck will then pop out off the chassis. With the truck out, simply snap the truck without the coupler in place. Swivel to test to make sure it is moving freely and not catching on the electrical contacts.
